The conventional wisdom for any college sport says that if you want the best of the best, you look at the NCAA Division 1 teams. Certainly, that’s true when it comes to sports like basketball and football. Those programs have a huge influx of cash, and they have the kind of infrastructure necessary to recruit the best players and build dominant teams. For other sports, like soccer, it’s a little trickier. The best soccer colleges in America aren’t always the NCAA Division 1 Schools. NAIA or NCAA Division 2 schools often have just as serious and quality soccer programs as those NCAA Division 1 schools.

Most graduating high schoolers today give up on soccer scholarships for a number of reasons. Many have had lectures by their parents about how they will not become pro or how injury could ruin your life, especially if you donʼt have an academic back-up. The truth is that taking a soccer scholarship doesnʼt mean that you will focus only on sports in college, or that your GPA will plummet because your schedule is jammed packed by soccer practices and road games. In fact, striving for and earning a soccer scholarship can actually boost your GPA, make you a more efﬁcient student, and will give you the extra beneﬁt of physical ﬁtness.
